Network Planning Tools
Don't just ponder. Predict link performance today.1. Link Estimator
The Point-to-Point Link Estimator Tool and the companion Path Profiler Form are used to assess link probability and reliability. With a link estimation report, appropriate performance expectations can be set prior the purchase of any PTP system.
The PTP Link Estimator tool is a spreadsheet allows customers to determine link performance characteristics prior to purchasing a wi4 Fixed PTP 400 or PTP 600 Series wireless solution. Link planning should be done prior to any equipment purchase or physical installation. The PTP Link Estimator allows the operator to conduct "what if" scenarios to optimise system performance given certain assumptions about geography, distance, antenna height, transmit power and other factors.
The tool can be downloaded from Motorola's secure channel partner website.
PTP Path Profiler
The PTP Path Profiler is used to specify the local and remote locations that you want to connect by providing the latitude and longitude of the locations from a GPS or mapping tool, such as Google. After the Path Profiler has been filled out and submitted, the server will compute the land profile for input into the PTP Link Estimator.

Graphical Display
The PTP Link Estimator Graphical Display gives a pictured image of how the various inputs - terrain, obstructions, antenna heights, etc. - influence the overall Path Profile. The benefit is that you can optimise a link before deployment by changing input data to see the effect on performance and throughput. For example, if a link calculation indicates low throughput, then a number of factors can be changed to see the improvement on link performance.
Typically, the link planning process takes approximately an hour. Once the process has been completed, the PTP Link Estimator provides graphical and textual detail of the path and its projected performance.

2. PTP LINKPlanner
This application allows customers to determine link performance characteristics for the PTP300, PTP500 and PTP600 series wireless solution. The PTP LINKPlanner, available for PCs and Macs, allows the operator to conduct "what if" scenarios, based on geography, distance, antenna height, transmit power and other factors, to optimize system performance before purchase.PTP LINKPlanner is the next generation of Motorola’s widely popular Link Estimator, a tool that is used to plan the successful deployment of thousands of point-to-point links across the globe every month using Google Earth. The feature-rich LINKPlanner provides the ability to plan single and multiple links simultaneously, an intelligent and time-saving feature that is not available in Link Estimator.
Quick Start
Path profile information comes directly from the Motorola servers – with no web form to complete – and is sent as an email, to be imported into the LINKPlanner tool.
Graphical Display
Optimize a link before deployment by changing input data to see the effect on performance and throughput. For example, if a link calculation indicates low throughput, then a number of factors (product type, frequency, channel bandwidth, antenna height, antenna size etc) can be changed to see the improvement on link performance.
Timeliness and Reporting
Typically the link planning process takes approximately an hour, and the resulting report provides graphical and textual detail of the path and its projected performance.
